P2P Advocates for In-Person Learning
Why this petition matters
Peak to Peak is currently operating under a hybrid model at all grade levels, with less time in person as students get older. Peak to Peak's approach is inconsistent with Boulder Valley School District, and it is not following the example of successful in-person education exhibited at other Charter Schools in the district, or private schools in the area. As parents and caregivers of Peak to Peak students, we are asking for a full return to school, five days a week, for all grade levels as soon as possible during the 2020-21 school year.
We have seen the irreparable harm the virtual / hybrid approach has been doing to our children, at all grade levels. Students are disconnected, isolated and struggling to learn in this environment. Each year of a student's education is vital to their social, emotionally and educational well-being.
While the health of teachers and staff is vital, it should not be the only goal - especially not to the detriment of our students. Peak to Peak has provided for staff with exemptions to work remotely, and the students and staff are wearing masks and social distancing. Additionally the school installed the needlepoint bipolar ionization system that has helped Holy Family High School to be in person for 5 full days/week since August, with only 6 community-acquired cases to-date. The science has clearly shown that when these practices are in place, the risk of spread in schools is incredibly low, in fact far lower than the risk within the community. Why is it with all of these measures and the scientific knowledge we now have, that keeping kids home in order to protect the staff is still where the school stands? How low does the risk need to be? We all know by now, the risk is never going to be zero. Knowing this, we have to learn how to move forward. Please Peak to Peak, return our students to in-person learning.
