I now live in Salem. I am bothered that the collection is squirreled away and inaccessible. Also bothered that the lovely building stands empty.

I live in Salem and our library serves not only as a Public benefit for all, but a safe space for many of our lowest income and financially marginalized populations to regroup, read, find resources and regain hope for their own future.

As a descendant of the Peabody family, I used the copy of the Peabody Genealogy held in the Phillips Library at the Essex Institute in the late 1980s for research purposes. Shameful such a low priority is now given to historic preservation in Salem!

I believe that the Salem Historical archives should be located in the historical city of its origin.
I was born and raised in Salem and feel very strongly about its history...and what better to learn about it than in Salem

Having lived near the library for 5 years now, I walk by nearly on a daily basis and read that Under Renovations sign - and have seen no progress. I’ve been wishing for the day it will be open to the public again, in some fashion. But, restricting its access by location seems to show very little integrity on part of the the PEM. Keep history in Salem.

Local records should be kept in locally to facilitate a community’s curiosity, investigation, and contribution to its understanding and development.
