Save Our BEOWOOF Sign!

Beowoof Provisions for Pets is a very small pet supply shop/boutique in Hoboken, NJ. We are submitting this petition in hopes of saving the sign in front of our store, which is our only form of advertising. The sign needs "saving" because our neighbor, an owner of many properties in our community, has decided (after many, many years) to renovate the building next door so that his son can open an "architecture/real estate" company. He wants to place a sign where our sign is and has been since we opened.

We opened our store 14 years ago in June, 2003, just off of the main shopping street, next to a boarded-up brownstone being used as an Italian men's "Soccer Club", and across the street from a dilapidated brownstone.

When we moved in, the previous business had posted their sign to signposts attached to a section of the fence surrounding our stairwell. We knew that a sign had been there in one form or another for at least 25 years, so we repainted the extant sign with our store logo. All has been well for the last 14 years other than our neighbor complaining occasionally that, once he renovates his building, that sign "will have to go". Initially, we worried that this would happen within a matter of weeks. However, years would go by and nothing would happen. This neighbor, in the same visit, would then tell us how beautiful our store was and ask if we would move to his building once the (eventual) renovations were complete.

We don't want to move our store (we like our landlord) and we don't want to move our sign because we're a very small business and we can't afford to lose visibility from Hoboken’s main business street. (And, incidentally, our landlord doesn't want us to move the sign, either).

We would very much appreciate your participation in signing this petition to demonstrate our pet-loving community’s support for Beowoof in this classic "David vs. Goliath" situation.
