Due to the rise in crime, students wanted to discover just how much jurisdiction public safety has over off-campus conflicts.Our motive for the petition was inspired by public safety’s inconsistency in addressing off-campus issues. Alcohol conflicts are rapidly addressed but physical conflicts are not. Yet, an interview that was conducted with public safety reveals that technically they do not have jurisdiction over anything.Public Safety stated, “Providence College Office of Public Safety, has no  jurisdiction/authority off campus, meaning we do not have police powers, and are unarmed.  We do not respond to incidents that arise off campus for that reason”. 

This petition will help raise awareness and assist in the safety for the students and the safety of residents off campus near PC.
