End Whale and Dolphin Captivity
I urge the Vancouver Park Board commissioners to ban all importation of cetaceans into city parks. Please amend the park bylaw to end this cruelty and force a gradual phase out of performing whales and dolphins in Stanley Park. The bylaw should also ensure that all rescued cetaceans and pinnipeds be housed and rehabilitated away from the public and not trained or forced to perform tricks. The bylaw should also ensure that there is a clear intent to rehabilitate for release of all rescued cetaceans and pinnipeds.
Additionally, I request commissioner John Coupar and Sarah Kirby-Young to recuse themselves from all aquarium matters brought before park board. Commissioner Kirby-Young was employed as the Aquarium’s marketing vice-president and now her company Sky Communications benefits through her affiliation and reference of the Aquarium. Commissioner Coupar has recused himself from aquarium discussions before proving that he has connections that make him biased towards the Aquarium’s business interests.
