Demand transparency from PayPal and Venmo for why they close customer accounts
Why this petition matters
Several consumers of PayPal and Venmo that I know have complained about their service suddenly being suspended. I was unfortunate enough to become a victim of this, and despite several calls to customer support, I cannot get past a robotic voice telling me to resolve my (permanent, mind you) limit elsewhere.
We as consumers should have the right to know what we did wrong to deserve sudden suspension of our accounts with next to no warning. No review, no time before it's suspended, and no reason given. PayPal, and by extension Venmo, should tell their consumers what they have done wrong, if anything. Instead, several consumers are left scouring the user agreement, terms of service, or whatever other documents underlie the rights of the company and the consumer, wondering what it was they've done wrong.
The way to go about this should not be to suspend their account and cut off all avenues of communication. The way to go about this should not be give companies like this the ability to suspend a user's account at a moments' notice just because they think it's a good idea.
The way to go about this is company transparency, regardless of a consumer's status with the company, and to tell somebody what they've done wrong if they decide that suspending their service is the way to go, more so than just "we've determined that your recent activities violate our terms."
