Neve Campbell has announced she will not be appearing in Scream 6 as Sidney Prescott, over salary dispute with the studio. She starred in the franchise in 1996 and has become the staple iconic character of the franchise for five movie instalments. It would be a shock to have the character killed off, but for the character to not appear at all in what is rightfully her own franchise, is beyond laughable, especially when the concern is over money and not the story.

Neve stated: “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” the actress says about her turn in the $744M-plus grossing global franchise, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

We have seen how producers can treat their characters of iconic franchises with little to no regard; look what happened to Jodie Foster being replaced by Julianne Moore in Hannibal (2001), or what Dimension Films did with Danielle Harris' character for Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) over pay disputes, a decision that, in the proved an unfortunate outcome for the both the actress and the dedicated fans.

Neve Campbell is the heroine of the Scream franchise (a literal "Scream Queen"), and to treat her character in such a disposable manner as though she's replaceable with carbon copies of her character is an insult to the actress, as well undermining the fans rightful expectations. As with a lot of semi-rebooted franchises, the likeminded mentality of producers is to make the next film a sequel, yet treat it in a remake manner and assuming that modern audiences are somehow going to accept one-dimensional characters in place of our vintage, nuanced actors/characters which made more impact than these recycled versions ever could hope to compete with.

THANKFULLY, the fans of these franchises, wield the true power to sway any corporate's decision over a simple matter of pay. When the fans speak up, mountains can be shifted as the case with Zack Snyder's Justice League Director's Cut, and even getting Amber Herd justly removed from Aquaman 2.
