Kim Walter, professional acupuncturist, expert in Chinese medicine, and substitute teacher in the Fremont Union High School District, loved by all students, has come across a problem regarding her love for both teaching and her passion in life, Chinese medicine. As a substitute teacher throughout the Bay Area, Kim Walter, known by students as Mrs. Walter, often enlightens students with the benefits of Tai Chi after the lesson tasked for the class has been completed. However, recently in the Fremont Union High School District, the administration has gone over the student’s belief in the benefits of learning about Tai Chi and banned the practice of Tai Chi from Mrs. Walter’s class. While the administration believes this practice to be a distraction from the typical maths and sciences taught in the students’ curriculum, the supporters of Mrs. Walter and her Tai Chi teachings (almost all of the student body at Homestead High) argue that the non-curriculum practice that Mrs. Walter offers gives students a much needed change from the normal subjects taught. Students will also be quick to argue that giving students a chance to learn about the benefits of practicing Chinese medicine and Tai Chi does not deter work from being accomplished in class. Due to the polarizing nature from the administration of Mrs. Walter teachings, the banning of Mrs. Walter has been brought up between the teachers and staff. Please help save Mrs. Walter and her Tai Chi at Homestead High School.
