As commencement season approaches, APU graduating student body was notified by the University President, Paul Ferguson, that the university does not plan on holding an in-person ceremony but rather "in-person Commencement activities to complement the Virtual Commencement Ceremonies". He is making the decision based on the success of the Fall Virtual Commencement, because this "ensures that all graduates, regardless of their place of residence and ability to travel to campus, will be honored with a full and meaningful ceremony".

However, we, the graduating student body, and our families do not agree with this decision. We ask that Azusa Pacific University do right by its students in honoring their efforts by hosting in-person commencement ceremonies following CDC guidelines. We ask they follow the lead of other higher education institutes, both private and public universities, holding in-person ceremonies for their rightfully deserved students. We understand that this can present new challenges but we are confident it can be done safely just as other schools have made arrangements to hold in-person commencement ceremonies. We ask President Paul Ferguson and the Board of trustees, truly advocate for the majority of their graduating student body and grant them the proper celebration in achieving this momentous milestone.
