Members of Congress should have the same Health Savings Accounts they want for us.

As a registered nurse with more than thirty five years of ICU, ER, and public health experience, I know what happens when people are unable to seek medical attention. Emergency rooms take the place of office visits, treatable illnesses become chronic diseases, patients put off treatment until they are faced with long-term, costly intensive care, hospitals become over-burdened and financially distressed.  Preventative care with a yearly screening for abnormalities including blood tests, readily accessible clinics, and reasonably priced medicines would greatly impact the health and welfare of our citizens while in the long run cutting health care costs, minimizing ER wait times while decreasing the financial burden on hospitals.  Congress is currently attempting to dismantle the Affordable Care Act [ACA].  It appears to embrace the idea of a Health Savings Plan [HSP].  Many claim that this plan will be insufficient to meet many individuals' needs since a devastating illness or injury, given today's medical costs, could all but wipe out any accrued savings in virtually a single move.  Others say that a HSP has the potential to raise rather than lower health care costs. Whatever the overall political motivation(s)  of Congress may be, it is clear that the great impact of such legislation will fall most heavily on the public. Therefore, let's require that members of Congress have to accept the same Health Care Plan they want to provide to us.  This will, at minimum, put Congress on notice that the taxpayer rejects the practice of Congress living in an insulated world. If the proposed legislation is seen as workable for the electorate, let the same hold for the lawmakers.
