Several media outlets have reported that the Trump Administration is expected to impose a ban on refugees. Refugees are vulnerable people who are only looking for a quite and a peaceful place where no one hurts them, humiliates them, or threatens their livelihood.
The Administration’s move is advertised to put a hold on issuing visas to refugees, from many war-torn countries in the Middle East, till a new vetting process is created.
I am here to tell you that the current vetting process is more than adequate. I have been through it myself. I worked for the US Department of Defense as an Interpreter/Translator in Iraq from 2005 to 2008. Although I put my life on the line working for the US Government, experiencing small arms fire, mortar attacks, and road-side bombs, I still had to go through almost two years of vetting and processing before I was issued a visa to come to the United States.
The following link will take you to a video Narrated by Jeh Johnson, The Secretary of Homeland Security from 2013 to 2017. The video explains what a potential refugee goes through to resettle in the U.S.
Some might be hesitant to help, because of all the false information that exists about refugees. But we are here to give you the facts. The fact is that women and children comprise more than half of the refugees coming from Iraq and Syria. We should not be afraid of women and children, they are no threat to us, not even economically.
Please join us in signing this petition to urge congress and the Office of the President to keep our promise and commitment to the rest of the world. Lets not abandon innocent women, children, and families.
Amnesty International reports that 4 in 5 people worldwide say, “We welcome refugees!” Lets keep our doors open, as we have always done.
