Since the retirement of our crossing officer at the junction of Coombe Drive on Totternhoe road, the increased danger when crossing the road has highlighted the need for a permanent crossing solution.  Although we are aware of the ongoing recruitment programme to replace Marion, the road is still a danger to cross throughout the remaining periods of the day, as well as weekends.

Totternhoe road, unlike many other busy roads within Dunstable has not been reduced to 20mph.  It does not have any speed bumps or any form of traffic calming, yet it is the only school without a crossing.  A permanent solution would not only provide a safe crossing place for parents taking children to and from Lancot school, but it would also service local residents.

This campaign has the full support of the school, the PTA and also the Governors.  Andrew Selous MP is aware of our campaign and supporting via direct contact with the council.

As a parent, I have a personal interest in keeping my family safe, but I have also witnessed residents of all ages having difficulty crossing Totternhoe road.  If we are able to show the Central Beds Council that as a community, we believe this is an essential change needed to ensure the safety of everybody, then we will have a much stronger case than individually.  I fear that if we do not take action an place pressure on the council to install a crossing, it is only a matter of time before we experience a tragic accident.
