Ava Ekberg started this petition to State Representative Paul Brodeur and

Goal: To require sex education in the state of Massachusetts. By signing this petition, you will show your support to the "Let's Talk About Consent" bill, which has been sent to the State Senate. Read below for more information pertaining to this petition.

At my high school, seniors spend their year researching about a Social Justice project that they are passionate about. My Social Justice Project is the Negative Response to Sexual Assault Victims Speaking Out. A recurring theme present throughout my research pertained to the idea of consent and what consent looks like today. Many people are misinformed about consent. This can be because in the state of Massachusetts, there is no law requiring schools to teach sex education, which means that the concept of sexual consent is not being addressed. If sex education is implemented into the education system, future generations will be better informed on how to act, how to say no, and how to ask for help. Sex education could also prevent future victims and predators alike from taking part in sexual assault.

There is currently a bill being proposed in the state of Massachusetts titled "Let's Talk About Consent". This is not the first sex education in school system bill to be seen in the State Senate. Previous bills have been shut down due to how personal the topic of sex education can be. But in a time where we have seen the effects sexual predators have on the nation at large, it is evident that there has never been a more just time to require education on such an important topic.

The purpose of this petition is to show senators and officials that there are members of the state that support this proposed bill. I hope that you take the time to sign this petition in the hopes of bringing education to future generations. Thank you.
