Why this petition matters

Started by Anna Lieggi

After Thanksgiving we've had a surge of cases at our school and in Irvine. Hospitals in Orange County are overflowing with patients so doctors and nurses are extremely stressed as they work to accommodate everyone. There is 0% ICU availability and more and more members of our community are getting sick. While we have been following regulations at school, it is undeniable that covid is spreading through students at our school. Students have been with family and friends during this two week break and have been ignoring safety protocols. As a result, we've had 148 new cases on January 2nd and it's only going to continue increasing. Our lives are at risk and we are worried for our safety. By going to school during this dangerous time we would be endangering our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. In the best interest of the students, faculty, hospital staff, and families of the students, we would like to remain online for a few weeks following winter break. We understand a lot of time and effort has been put into keeping our school open, however, we believe it is important to play it safe and protect the lives of the people in our community. Please make the right choice and listen to the people you are supposed to represent. Thank you!
