We want a Scarborough Youth Freedom Farm- growing by the youth for food security in Scarborough!

Our riding, Scarborough-Guildwood, has one of the highest rates of child poverty, food insecurity and food bank usage in the Greater Toronto Area, and we have a solution to combat this injustice. Scarborough Youth Freedom Farm is a youth-led grassroots collective of young, politically optimistic community organizers. We are black and femme led, with all leaders organizing from and for our community— Scarborough.

We want to create a food justice, organic farm located either in Densgrove park (4.5 hectares of lawn) or the Meadoway (over 2,000 hectares of to-be meadow), or any unused, accessible space in Scarborough. Gaining access to land will allow us to provide food, resources, knowledge and guidance to offspring food and land sovereignty movements to work against systemic oppressions within the food system.

We are asking for at least 10 thousand square feet (0.092 hectares) of accessible (near a ttc stop), clean (soil tilled) land. We want to have 5 thousand square feet of market gardening.  We want to transform at least 5 thousand square feet of accessible land into a regenerative permaculture farm to restore the topsoil and turn our farm into a carbon sink. Reducing our community's carbon footprint while providing food security is one of the ways we will function on a regenerative principle. Lastly, we will run monthly urban agriculture workshops, facilitated by Climate Justice Scarborough, and farm tours to inspire self-sufficiency, food security and strong community ties.

To get access to our desired plots we need your support! Will you help us bring food security to our community?
