The Planning Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/20/17 at 6pm. The location is City Hall, 1300 White Street, Key West.
If you are in town, please help support our cause and show up. You will be granted 3 minutes to speak. We want the Planning Board to enforce the city ordinance and deny the applicant the ability to sell alcohol at this location.
Preserve our residential neighborhood, keep it alcohol free. Oppose the granting of an "Alcohol License" for 700 Eaton Street, Key West, Florida which is scheduled for the 4/20/2017 Planning Board Meeting.
Please join us in supporting a church located within 300 feet that unanimously opposes granting of this license as well as numerous other neighbors within the same proximity.
The reason why this license should not be approved is reinforced by the following ordinance of the City of Key West.
Evaluation of Compliance with Section 18-28 of the Code of Ordinances
A) Pursuant to Section18-28 of the City Code of Ordinances, no person shall conduct in the City any business involving the sale of alcoholic beverages where such place of business is 300 feet of any established church, school, cemetery, or funeral home. Such distance shall be measured by following the shortest route of ordinary fare from the nearest point of the property line of the place of business to the property line of the church, school, cemetery or funeral home facilities. However, any person licensed to conduct and legally conducting a business involving the sale of alcoholic beverages as of January 4, 1995 shall be governed by the provisions of this section which existed at the time of the original licensure of such business.
Additionally, our quiet residential neighborhood will be severely impacted by a potential wine store that sells alcohol, serves food, has outside seating and limited parking between homes and the church. It will effect the immediate neighborhood in the following ways:
1. Increased Traffic
2. Increased Parking
3. Increased Accidents
4. Increased Tourist Traffic
5. Increased Recycling Noise
6. Increased Loitering
7. Increased Crime
The above mentioned points will have a negative impact on the quality of life in our neighborhood.
For the foregoing reasons, we the undersigned respectfully urge The Planning Board Members of the City of Key West
1. Not to approve an "Alcohol Sales Special Exemption" for 700 Eaton Street , Key West, Florida.
