Tyrone Hood has spent 21 years imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. His story has gained national attention, witnesses have recanted, and the victim’s estranged father has been convicted of a murder in a series of homicides identical to the one Mr. Hood is wrongfully convicted of committing. Please join us in asking Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to prevent an innocent man from spending another 55 years in prison by granting Tyrone Hood clemency.
In 1993, when the police approached Tyrone Hood about the murder of Marshall Morgan Jr., Tyrone had no idea his case would be one of many cases impacted by widespread corruption inside the Chicago Police Department at the time. Despite having no motive, witness coercion by police, and flimsy evidence, Tyrone Hood was convicted.
Hood’s lawyers believe the real killer is Marshall Morgan, Sr., the victim’s father. After only being back in his son’s life for a few months, he took out a life insurance policy and collected over $44,000 dollars after the murder. Two years later he would do the same with his fiance, Michelle Soto, collecting over a $100,000 dollars after she was found murdered. The murders of Marshall Morgan Jr. and Michelle Soto were almost identical. Both were shot to death and their bodies found wedged between the front and back seats of their cars. Marshall Morgan, Sr. was also convicted of two murders, one in 1977 of his friend William Hall and most recently in 2001 of his then-fiance Deborah Jackson. Both were shot in their cars and left for dead.
Even though the media has started to share Tyrone’s story, witnesses have recanted their statements, police corruption uncovered, and Marshall Morgan, Sr.’s heinous crimes have come to light, Tyrone still sits in jail. What he needs now is a groundswell of public support for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to grant Tyrone Hood clemency. Signing this petition will help us get one step closer to Tyrone’s freedom.
