Pay back student tuition fees for four weeks of missed contact hours

From 22nd February to 19th March 2018, staff at Goldsmiths College will be striking over cuts to their pension schemes, seeing the average lecturer £10,000 a year worse off.

We stand in solidarity with the striking academic staff, believing this to be an assault on the work they do and the promises they have been made. Goldsmiths College, and Patrick Loughrey as its warden must meet lecturers demands, and must negotiate on their behalf to Universities UK condemning pension cuts. If they do not, we the students demand that tuition fees are reimbursed for the contact hours we will lose out on. We pay £9,000 as a year as undergraduates - more as postgraduates. If the university and the senior management team can't support its staff, it is unreasonable we should still continue to pay the full amount for an educational experience that won't be provided.

During this time, students on average will see between 20-40 contact hours lost depending on how timetables are structured, with 4 weeks of the term being affected. It is unacceptable for this to happen at a crucial time in the academic term.

This is bigger than just Goldsmiths, and is affecting university staff across the country. In making a stand here, we make a stand against the marketisation of education at large.
