Philip Simmons High School Students want Lacrosse!

Lacrosse has expanded rapidly throughout the Northeast, with major hubs having been established in Boston, New York, Baltimore and Washington D.C. Naturally the growth has continued, and high school lacrosse programs are now featured in nearly every state in the country.

In comparison to the rest of the east coast, lacrosse is still in its adolescence in South Carolina, with just over 50 public and private high schools in the state fielding teams.

Over the past decade, newly established high school programs have been popping up every year, giving youth the opportunity to play a sport that is relatively unfamiliar to the southern culture.

The recent surge of lacrosse programs proves the receptiveness and interest of the youth in the state. With continued expansion and time for growth, lacrosse will likely be competing with baseball in the future as the dominant spring sport for high schools in South Carolina.

Philip Simmons High School will open this fall with no lacrosse team!  Based off the growing interest, and students already playing this sport ( in many cases for several years) I feel that it's only natural that Philip Simmons should offer Lacrosse as an option for both women's and men's athletics.

I'm rallying the troops of parents and students who want to see this sport pushed through at Philip Simmons!!! If you feel equally as strong that PSHS must have a lacrosse team I urge you to sign this petition!

In short, what this means is that unless the Philip Simmons High School creates a club lacrosse program, the Philip Simmons community will have no viable lacrosse option for our student athletes. This penalizes both the current club players who want to play for their schools, as well as younger students who desire to play high school lacrosse. Organized and supervised high school athletics are an important part of the high school community. Moreover, high school lacrosse offers many collegiate scholarship opportunities to accomplished student athletes. If Philip Simmons High School does not create a lacrosse team, students will essentially be shut out of the opportunity for these scholarships because they will not be permitted to play other high schools. There is an urgent need to start the Philip Simmons High School lacrosse teams now. My signature on this petition signifies my strong support for the creation of the Philip Simmons High School club lacrosse team, starting in Spring 2018.
