Why this petition matters

Help get more rights for fathers to support their pregnant partners.  Currently,  expecting fathers aren't entitled to any time off until the day their child is born, whilst expecting mothers are entitled to 52 weeks (1 year) of maternity leave, no matter how long you've worked for your employer.

Whilst I support that woman should be entitled to more time off than men, I do believe they should have more rights than they do.

Under current laws, fathers are entitled to either 1 or 2 weeks paid (if you have worked for the company for 26 weeks before your partner is 15 weeks pregnant) - in my case, I've missed out by 2 days.

Woman need a lot of support during the last trimester as it is one of the most traumatic experiences a womans body can go through, not only physically but emotionally too and especially with your first child, it can be terrifying having to be left alone knowing you could go into labour at any moment and have nobody there to help.

My hope is for fathers to get a minimum of at least 1 or 2 weeks off before the due date to be there for their partner.

From a personal level I feel the rights are outdated to a time where men were the bread runner and the woman were just expected to take care of the children.

I'd very much appreciate if you guys could get behind me on this as it would make a massive difference to so many people.

It's time for change!

Many thanks
