Petition to not outlaw tethering in Brunswick County, NC

We, the undersigned, are all residents, and/or taxpayers of Brunswick County, North Carolina. We request the County Commissioners of Brunswick County: Frank Williams, Pat Sykes, Mike Forte, J. Martin Cooke and Randy Thompson, to keep the ordinance of tethering of animals in Brunswick County, North Carolina in opposition to the proposed petition to ban tethering. The current laws are humane and enforced despite efforts from others in this community trying to force dog owners to comply to stricter standards. Many dog owners in this county have hunting and sporting dogs that are kept outside with tethers that weigh no more than 1 pound that are 10-15ft giving the dog 314-706 square feet of area to move around in comparison to the average kennel that is only 10x10ft = 100sq ft or 10x6ft = 60 sq ft. Banning tethering would have the unintended consequences of dogs being moved from having more area to having less area in kennels. Many residents in this county cannot afford fences around there property and some dog owners are renters that are not allowed to keep dogs in the dwelling they rent and must keep the dog outside. There are many other cases that would effect dogs and dog owners and we hereby request that the current laws remain the same as the are humane and enforced justifiably.
