Apologize for telling parents to give gay kids "a good punch"

During the April 29, 2012 service at Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Pastor Sean Harris preached a sermon supporting the effort to write a ban on same-sex marriage into the North Carolina Constitution. Toward the end of his sermon, he told his flock that if they had sons who showed gay tendencies, "you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give them a good punch. OK?" He further added that he was giving his flock "special dispensation" to discipline their gay children in this manner.
Harris has since told the Fayetteville Observer that he was only joking when he made that suggestion, and that most people who have spoken with him have said that they knew he didn't really mean it. This is unacceptable. Regardless of where you stand on same-sex marriage and gay rights, child abuse is not a joking matter, and Harris is setting an appalling example by even thinking this is a joking matter.
Harris needs to issue an full and unequivocal apology for his hurtful and disgusting words.
