Marchelle Watts started this petition to Pasco County Sheriff

I am writing this petition in hopes of getting the non violent inmates released out of the Pasco County jail due to the Coronavirus. The surrounding counties released non violent inmates to try to keep the population down inside the jail because no one is picking up the imates for transportation to prison during this time so the jails are definitely getting overpopulated.  However most of the inmates being held in the Pasco County Jail are in what is called open bay, which means they are not protected from whoever comes in with the virus, they are not able to self quarantine or remove themselves from that particular area. Pasco county jail is continuously taking in new inmates not knowing where they are coming from or if they are infected with the virus. There are several inmates already sleeping on the floors and now they are being given limited supplies due to the fact that they are running out. All other countries felt the need to try to keep ALL people safe from the virus and as healthy as possible even if people needed to be released, however Pasco County felt it is not necessary to have people at least 6ft apart or only in groups of ten because human beings are required to sleep on the floor crowded in one big room with others coming in from the outside sitting and breathing all on you. I understand to some these people are criminals that need to be locked up like animals, but to others they are our loved ones who are in some cases in there for little to no time and should be as protected as everyone else during this time. Releasing the non violent inmates will not only help clear some of the space that doesn't need to be occupied and keep the germs down, but it will also give all the inmates a chance to get 6ft apart and follow the guidelines given because we all know that once one person gets it in that facility,It will be uncontrollable. So please sign this petition to help get as many of these inmates home to their families as we can. Some of them have only a few months anyway.
