When I search through Halloween costume catalogs, I am disappointed to find that most of the women's costumes are immodest (mini-skirts, bare shoulders, and low necklines). Many women, like myself, want a modest yet creative Halloween costume, but have to resort to making them since there isn't much to choose from at costume supply stores. I want to send a message to suppliers that there is a market for modest women's costumes.
There are many reasons why a women would want to buy a modest costume. Many participate in family-friendly celebrations at their employment, their school, their children's school, their church and their community where an immodest costume would be innappropriate. We also don't want to freeze when we help with trick-or-treating!
Also, many women don't feel comfortable in revealing clothing. The reasons are varied. Some feel they don't have the right body shape. Others may feel too self-conscious and therefore wouldn't enjoy the festivities. Still others have moral objections to such clothing. Their way of showing respect for themselves and their bodies is by wearing modest clothing. They might also not wish to be seen as "sex objects."
If you or someone close to you would be interested in wearing a modest Halloween costume, please sign this petition. This will be sent to Party City, one of the nation's largest costume suppliers. My goal is that this will help them see that there is a market for such clothing, so for the following year they will provide a wider selection of modest women's costumes.
