Patton Tenney started this petition to Parma Board of Educationn Parma Board of Education Superentienant

Hi, I come from a family of 3 Autistic individuals, including myself. I was in my health class this past year. I asked to talk about Autism in class and was denied because there wasn't any time. More than 3.5 million Americans are Autistic and it is not mentioned even once in health books while Schizophrenia is diagnosed in approximately 2 million Americans and we spend at least a good day or two on it. It hurts to know that an issue that affects me and many others I know isn't talked about at all.

Autism affects so many students and their families. Acceptance and understanding is the key to helping these students be successful not only in school but in life. Autism does not just affect children but it is a lifelong development disorder. By teaching all children about this disorder, we build a foundation of support for Autistic children and adults.

So my plan is to take this petition to my local school district's board of education and try and get them to change the curriculum to talk about Autism even if for only a day. Without this petition and supporters, the path to acceptance and understanding of Autistic children and adults and Autism spectrum disorder can be blocked for years to come. So please, I implore you. Help me make my school district more informed of an important development disorder that affects me, my family, friends and the many Autistic students in my districts.
