Parliament to instruct Ofgem to reinstate the energy price cap
The recent lifting of the Energy Price Cap has meant that energy companies have put in place an unprecedented rise of 54%. With indication that there will be a further rise in October 2022 of around 29%. This will in fact be greater than this months rise as it is 29% on a figure already raised by 54%. The affect of these rises will see many in society having to choose between heating and food. This is further compounded for those on card meter, who already pay a higher rate for the "privilege of pre paying for their energy.
While the wholesale price of energy maybe going up, these rises only benefit the shareholders of these energy companies while casting millions into fuel poverty.
This has to stop and, as Ofgem is accountable to, Parliament, they can instruct Ofgem to reinstate the Price Cap and prevent this unbearable cost being levied on the public, while energy company shareholders profiteer from their misery.
