Replace 'God Save The Queen' with 'Mr Brightside' as the National Anthem

It is a well known fact that the highlight of any disco, night out, or general dancing occasion is when, as the closing number, the DJ pulls out Mr Brightside. Everyone knows all the lyrics, everyone has a choreographed routine, and everyone loves it. I doubt the same can be said for our current national anthem.

Can you imagine a world, where at sporting events, important occasions and in school assemblies, instead of the dreary chorus of God Save The Queen, which turns into a jumble of syllables after the first verse due to no-one actually knowing the lyrics, we had people passionately coming together to create a great choir reciting every beautiful lyric of Mr Brightside?

Mr Brightside may not be the most historically important song, or include anything about the history of our country, but that doesn't mean it won't go down in history as one of the nation's best loved bangers. It is a wonderful representation of our country's modern culture, and is a step forward. Sometimes we need to let the past go because it no longer accurately represents who we are and I think this is one of those cases. Our current national anthem may symbolise our country, but it also represents morals, views and attitudes of past generations. Mr Brightside does not. It has an upbeat tune to cover the less upbeat content of the song, which is something our nation does. Despite whatever wrong may be going on in our country, we always manage to mask it and stand strong, something having this song as our National Anthem would show.

I know I'm dreaming big when I hope for someone of true authority to see this, and for changes to be made, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this desire for a change of scene when it comes to our National Anthem, and I truly do not believe there to be a better choice of replacement song than Mr Brightside
