S127 of the Communications Act places a frightening limit on free speech in the UK, and has been used to convict comedians, singers, and private citizens for expressing an opinion or making a joke.
The Act makes unlawful statements which are "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character", which goes far beyond any purported need to protect people from violence.
Free speech is an absolute right, and should be protected at all costs. The UK government is able to use prosecutorial discretion to silence its citizens, and this should no longer be tolerated.
