Up to 30 wild goats will be killed all because Parks Victoria is simply too lazy to desex these goats or relocate them. The killing will begin on the 17th April 2012. The goats live in the You Yangs Regional Park but they are not wanted there. It seems the easy alternative is to just shoot the goats and be done with them. This is not good enough. Parks Victoria call these goats 'feral', this is how it justifies the fact it wants to kill the goats when other alternatives can be carried out to ensure that the goat numbers do not increase, and Parks Victoria is well aware of this.
Parks Victoria must be aware that the treatment of animals is now, more than ever, in the spotlight. This is due to the fact that animal welfare/rights groups and the media constantly expose the cruelty inflicted upon animals not just in Australia, but world wide.
To kill these wild goats simply because Parks Victoria feels the need to, is simply unacceptable, lazy and unconscionable.
Why can’t Parks Victoria catch and desex the goats in question? Why kill the goats just because they may get in the way of a few? Or if this is not able to be done than why can’t the wild goats be relocated?
I ask that Parks Victoria allow the goats to live out their natural lives in the You Yangs Regional Park. Surely a park the size of this one can easily accommodate such a small number of wild goats. Killing these goats will be frowned upon by animal lovers and will only tarnish the reputation of Parks Victoria.
