David Williams started this petition to Parks And Wildlife Service Tasmania

Back in June The Parks And Wildlife Services started a letter drop and door knock at Edgcumbe Beach, the letter was as follows (a scanned copy is also attached along with a response from Parks):

To the householder,

There have been repeated complaint from various members of the community about campers and rubbish dumping at Edgcumbe Beach Conservation Area point (the area between Edgcumbe Beach community and Hellyer Beach). There are also unsafe access tracks from the point onto Bass Highway.

As such, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service will be blocking vehicular access to this point.

Please note the point will still have pedestrian access, and vehicles will still be able to access Hellyer Beach to launch boats etc.

If you have any queries or comments on this proposal, please email edgcumbe@parks.tas.gov.au to leave feedback.

Your sincerely,

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service.

A local resident both emailed and rang up over this, and the response he got claimed that the majority of the community that responded to the PWS letter drop support the decision. This we don't believe for the following reasons, half the people here are permanent residents the rest only come out for weekends, holidays or the summer and better weather so they did not speak to the majority of residents or friends and family members that frequent the area and both use and enjoy it as well as respect and maintain it, not only that the drops and door knocking where undertaken in the middle of the day when most people weren't even home, this is just a case of 1 or a few people doing the wrong thing and then the majority pays for it rather than addressing that simple fact but also a case of Parks making their own decision without seeking the opinions of those that issues like this actually matter to and directly impact. So if you are against yet another unnecessary lockup in this beautiful part of the state kindly sign and share this petition.

Regards

David Williams
