Spotlights turned on into the evening at Victoria Park

Our goal is to put into use the already existing spotlights at Victoria Park. During the winter, the main concrete slab in front of the bandshell is used for a skating rink in which the spot lights are turned on into the evening to allow ice skaters to enjoy the space after it gets dark. In the summer time, the concrete slab is classified as a skateboard facility by the City of London. After the sun goes down, the park is very poorly lit and does not allow for much physical activity and the spot lights go virtually unused. Many other Canadian cities including Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver have allowed skateboard parks to use lights after dark which has increased the population of the culture immensely. Skateboarders and the general public would benefit greatly from the use of the over head spotlights because it would improve safety in the park, drive out drug users utilizing the darkness to remain unseen, and provide a space for skateboarders with jobs during the day to hangout into the evening and do what they love.
