Save Connaught Park and Kitsilano Community Centre

The Vancouver Parks Board has a plan to build a large destination aquatic centre at Connaught Park and the Kitsilano Community Centre. This would have a big impact on the neighbourhood and community, the green space would be lost and the traffic increase would be extreme. This plan has been developed without appropriate community and neighbourhood communication and feedback. The Connaught Park pool is planned to be a destination and competition pool constructed on the field and also includes tearing down the current Kitsilano Community Centre and building a central facility to serve the Vancouver West Side and outlying areas.  The Parks Board plan for overhaul of the West Side pools and community centres, which has been in the works since at least 2014, includes closing several smaller pools such as Lord Byng, Templeton and the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. This plan, called VanSplash, will cause the West Side to lose the essence of community centres to serve their surrounding neighbourhoods and will create one large and very busy pool and community centre at Connaught Park and the current Kitsilano Community Centre.  As well as the impact on people living in the Kitsilano area  and those currently using the Kitsilano Community Centre the loss of Connaught Park will impact those schools, sports teams, community groups and individuals who use the field and green space for sport and leisure. Please sign a petition for the Parks board and read more here
