Kilya Burdon started this petition to Parents and

Orange County Public School System (OCPS), has begun distance learning by
closing public schools. As a precautionary effort to reduce the spread of the
Coronavirus. Although we agree with this premise, we never agreed to stand
in proxy for the Department of Education, nor to assume the responsibility of
certified professional teachers. Instead, we are made liable to educate our
children within the constraints of our homes despite having no legal
qualifications. How can the government place parents in this position and  hold the students accountable to the grades earned. This rash decision
raises many issues and great negative consequences for parents and
children. The primary complaints are from parents who have several children and/or are still working full time or from home. With
some households having multiple children, they are now responsible to homeschool. Many of these parents may be high school dropouts themselves. Additionally, many other parents are technologically
challenged or ignorant.
Furthermore, a potential consequence for parent homeschoolers is extreme
and chronic stress, which can cause many ailments and diseases. Parents are being forced into a position that
guarantees a sub-par education for their children that may possibly fail.
Failure is not an option on the basis of a ah decision. Mandatory homeschooling is
one of the greatest travesties for many parents, right now.  This invalidates one of our nations' greatest mantras. 'Our children
are our future.' The solution to this national, epic problem is to educate our children within the home. If these students can't receive a traditional education, the school year should be ended. Distance learning is not sustaining the quality of education they deserve and to which only experienced professional educators can provide.
Finally, proving the legitimacy and validity of this petition, is that by law, you
must earn a professional license to teach, just as you would to practice law
or medicine. The process is to submit documentation to the state certifying
agency to acquire initial credentials, permanent credentials, and ultimately
attaining National Board Certification as a professionally qualified teacher. Lastly, the grades earned are counted against the child(ren) who aren't currently receiving a proper education by certified professionals. The students should not suffer the repercussions during such unstructured planning.
