The 2020 literacy act
The 2020 literacy act

The literacy act that Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law holds back third graders if they’re not reading on third grade level. They can be held back for 2 years. It doesn’t matter how well they do on their report card. If they don’t pass a specific test in 3rd grade they will be held back. Even if they have straight A’s on their report cards. A lot of children freeze up on tests. Had this been in law last year 31 third graders from my goddaughters’ school would’ve been held back. 31!!!!!! Please join us in reversing this decision made by Gov. Kay Ivey. This will cause children to have low self esteem and most will probably quit school at 16. If they do graduate they will be 20 when they do. If they get held back after they do complete the third grade they’ll be older or will age out of the school system. We can’t allow this to happen to our kids.
