We, the Parents, Students and Community Members of Anderson Valleys children want to support their teachers and ask the AVUSD Education Board of Directors to call for a Vote of No Confidence for Michelle hutchins, current superintendent at Anderson Valley Unified School District. We, the below signed, believe she does not demonstrate leadership skills needed to problem solve, lead faculty, nor to follow ethical codes of conduct in her role as AVUSD Superintendent.

We feel that there are many examples of Ms. Hutchins poor communication skills and lack of judgment. Because of this moral is low among staff, causing a stressful environment for our children, parents are pulling their children out of school an commuting to other districts in Mendocino or Ukiah, and core programs in our school have been compromised. Examples include the following:

The Food Service Program

When tasked with fixing the deficit in the food program Ms. Hutchins brought in an outside “consultant” to fix the problem. We have lots of issues with this. The first was that she didn’t ask the community for any input. We are a small community that has supported Terri Rhoades and her cafeteria program for many years. Ms. Hutchins pulled all of the food she was making and replaced it with packaged foods. Our children were then forced to take the food during the after school program. Children were having access to an unprecedented amount of carbs and sugar every day leading to major concerns for their health and safety.

Other offenses include but are not limited to:

The Strategic Plan or “Town Hall Meeting” fiasco

Assault Allegations

Neglecting to inform parents regarding an incident when a gun was brought to the High School

Total lack of accountability

Creating an environment of fear amongst the teachers and staff

We the parents of Anderson Valley demand action. We stand behind the teachers and staff of AVUSD and ask for a change in leadership effective July 1, 2018.
