SSD has opted to provide strictly bus drivers with front cameras for our public school buses which carry dozens of students per route. The goal of the petition is to get our drivers the monitors they could really use and to inform the school of the involvement needed from the administration side. The safety and well being of all students is imperative and it is impossible for a driver alone to transport children safely to and from school and home as well as visually see what’s happening. Children are being bullied on the buses, they are physically and emotionally being abused, and there is no one there to help then when the driver is focused on the road. Children on occasion get sick and recently there have been a few situations where children are getting off the bus In tears because they had no where to get sick and no one to help them. A monitor would allow our drivers to do what their job is and that is transport our children safely and on time, strictly. A monitor could help protect our children ensuring bullying isn’t happening on the bus and move children if and when needed. Cameras are great, but how about when it’s too late? Helping after the fact isn’t what SSD needs. A bus monitor is as well as actions being taken when it is reported to the school. Keep our kids safe!
