When I was traveling with my 2.5 year old kid we got seats 20 rows apart. Then recently, I was traveling with my 10 years old kid and we got seats 10 rows apart. It is crazy. My kid was to seat next to some strangers who were watching an age inappropriate movie, asking them strange things or I didn't know what. 

When I begged to get the seat next to them at the gate, the lady looked at me and said "she is really sorry, but she can not do anything about it". I got onto the plane, and the flight attended looked at me with an angry look and said she has no places to switch - maybe later during the flight. My kid got a place next to an old gentleman who truly needed his ail seat and should not trade it with me. 

Why? Why can't airlines have a proper algorithms that would allow parents (by default) sit with their children - at least at the age of under 15. Is it really that complicated? 

I spend 4 hours on the phone with two airlines today and tried to arrange the seat swap which was impossible according to their employes. I lost this time on the phone, their four hours of work were completely inefficient and we reached nothing. Let's change it. Let's ask airlines to have a proper algorithms that would secure parents and their children seats together - and by that provide more comfort, security for kids and parents as well as efficiency for the airlines employees!
