Third Chinese Immersion Class

We are aware that many parents are interested in having their children in the Chinese immersion program, but lack of space with only two classrooms per grade has prevented many from participating. If you are one of these parents or a current immersion parent that wants to make sure our program is supported for years to come, please sign this petition and help us make this change.
Heritage Elementary is currently operating with less than 50% of the school being Chinese immersion. While there is no set rule on what percentage of the school can be immersion, we feel it would be beneficial to add a third kindergarten immersion class for the 2017-18 school year, and each year following.
Having a third Chinese immersion class will allow siblings of current immersion students and most, if not all, of the other interested students to learn Chinese at Heritage Elementary. This way all students and families can choose what is best for them, making a stronger, better immersion program, as well as a feeling of choice instead of exclusion for all students at Heritage.
This will also benefit immersion students when they reach junior high and high school. Having more students in the program will allow for more Chinese class sections in these higher grades.
Having three classes also reduces individual class sizes. The two kindergarten immersion classes we have now are functioning at very high numbers because our principal wanted to allow in as many kids as possible. Adding a third class will reduce the class size to more manageable numbers.
Please show your support for immersion and sign this petition. Be sure to send this petition to others as well. We need parent support to make this change. Thank you!
