Make masks mandatory in the Pickerington Schools for our children's safety!
The following schools in Central Ohio have recently made the decision to require masks: Gahanna-Jefferson Public School District, Westerville City Public School District, Columbus City Schools, and The Ohio State University. Pickerington Local School District is the ONLY district that made the announcement not to require masks indoors for students and staff.
The CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Ohio Department of Health are recommending that everyone wear masks in K-12 schools throughout the country. Against ALL recommendations based on their data and statistics, the Pickerington Local School District has chosen to send our kids to school with the hopes that parents follow an "honor system" to mask their unvaccinated children. Parents of this district know this will not happen and are dissatisfied with the decision. Fairfield County has now moved to a “High” level of COVID-19 spread throughout the community. We are one of only 2 counties that are at the highest level of COVID-19 spread in the Central Ohio area. The Delta variant is not slowing down and is not going to peak until the end of October.
Pickerington Schools go back to school beginning Monday August 16th, that is just 12 short days away! The decision to make masks “optional” needs to be reversed and the district needs to change course and masks need to be required for unvaccinated/vaccinated students and staff as soon as possible. Welcome days and open houses will begin even sooner than August 16th, this decision should be a top priority of the Superintendent and School Board to keep our students and staff safe!
