With the number of students increasing, filling DISD classrooms, the need for a specialized classroom to aide students on the Autism spectrum who are non-verbal, speech delayed, and speech impaired, as well as other Special Needs students who struggle with communication, is imperative.  The support for the installment of a Speech Communication Classroom (SCC) is greatly needed.

A SCC allows students to integrate into a mainstream school community and participate as far as possible in the curriculum while providing additional support in areas where students may struggle.  

The amount of time spent in an SCC is determined on a case-by-case basis and specified in a students Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

SCC teachers are well-trained in Behavior Management, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Special Education, and De-Escalation to name a few.

An SCC is well staffed with 1 teacher and 2 aides to an average of 8 students.
