Diwali As A WSD Holiday

Diwali As A WSD Holiday
To The Wissahickon School Community (NO Donations Needed)
We the Wissahickon School District Community are requesting Diwali be observed on the Wissahickon District Calendar as a day off for all students. As we become more culturally aware and inclusive, it is important to acknowledge and respect all significant communities and cultures. For comparison purposes and precedent, Upper Dublin, Council Rock, and Unionville Chadds Ford School Districts have already recognized Diwali on their calendars and given students off to recognize this important holiday.
Over 1 billion people on this Earth celebrate Diwali. Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists all celebrate Diwali as an important holiday. Happily, there were many class and art projects dedicated to Diwali themes and students were to learn and embrace cultural competence. However, the school Fun Run and some class examinations were scheduled this year on Diwali. The Wissahickon School District does an outstanding job recognizing diversity and bringing cultural understanding to our families and communities. Let’s observe this day to facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Diwali is a time, in many faiths, to recognize good overcoming evil, a celebration of lights, and the New Year. Below please sign the petition to recognize this important holiday in our school district. We truly thank you for your signature. Together we can make a positive difference in this world and be an inclusive community that champions all.
Sincerely,
Drs. Sona & Manish Garg
