Special Education Schools in Galway have not been legislated or planned for yet as an exception of mainstream schooling in the Government 5 phase plan announced 1st May 2020

Special Schools in Galway need to be seen as an essential service.  Children with intellectual disabilities need their daily supports provided with appropriate measures in place. Government need to prioritise this now.

Special School ratios meet standards for social distancing as they are. School staff need to be returned to their placements as soon as possible. July provision programme for ASD students 2020 needs to be confirmed.

Children with severe intellectual disabilities are losing their educational and life skill progress as we speak. Respite services are functioning to a minimum and overwhelmed. Priority needs to be given to this crisis.
