Give children their independence back

I remember as do many playing long, late hours outside and having fun. Being independent, having the freedom to do what ever I wanted. But I believe we have mollycoddled the youth far too much.
Some will blame the amount of technology that they have and this is why they don't go out as much as they did. I don't believe this to be the main factor of why they stay in for long hours instead of going out. This is because if they go out and get muddy or cut themselves the parent or public make sure they are fine. However this will go on to affect their life for the future, you are removing the cognitive theory, which states that we should let children learn by making mistakes, playing and using their imagination. This will affect them by making them always want and need support for simple mundane tasks.
Of course this does not go for everyone but for those who agree that we should allow children to go out and just do what comes to their head, give them their independence back.
