Teachers Working With Private Unaided Schools

Dear Parents,

Have you decided to stop the mental growth of your child because there is a pandemic around with uncertainties about how long it will persist?  Do you wish your child to stop learning because of Coovid-19?  Your open or silent support to ‘NO SCHOOL – NO FEES’ is nothing short of such a decision.   So sad.

You seem to have mixed up your short-term concerns with the long-term goals of your child’s learning and growth.   It is true that financial concerns are looming large as an invisible enemy is creating havoc across the globe.  Some of you may not be in a condition to pay school fees due to loss of job or business.  And some of you may be expecting bad days ahead and you wish to save the school fees for that.  And these are the plain facts behind your support to ‘NO SCHOOL – NO FEES’.  All other arguments doing rounds on the social media are scrap.

The teachers community has been working overtime since the lockdown started to get ready (with videos, PPTs, notes and worksheets) for online classes as per the directives from the NCERT, published in April, 2020 and all private unaided schools have started their online lessons as well.  It is totally unfair that teachers who are working tirelessly, for your kids in challenging conditions, do not get paid because some parents do not feel the need to pay school fees and they stop other willing parents from paying the fees.

Some parents argue that schools may have a lot of savings which must be used to waive off school fees and pay salary to teachers.  This may be possible in some elite schools with stunning infrastructure spread over acres of land and even they could afford this for 2 or 3 months and not after that.  Of the 3,00,000 plus private unaided schools in the country, some 100+ schools may fall under this category.  The rest are all budget schools that were started from scratches and these schools spend a good sum of money annually in improving the infrastructure to stand the competition with other schools and they may not have the cash reserves to handle a pandemic like this.

You may see teachers as soft targets.  Please stop hitting the teachers below the belt because they are working hard for your children.  Don't you think they need to be paid for the work they are doing?
