Please call to a vote A494, which would authorize the courts to include animals in domestic violence restraining orders

Many victims of domestic violence can receive restraining orders to keep them safe from abusers, but often times choose not to because they do not want to abandon the family pet.  This happens for two reasons: they do not want the pet to be abused by the one committing the violence, and most people have an emotional attachment to a pet and vice versa and could never imagine abandoning it.

That is why I call upon the head of the Chairman of the Women and Children Committee in the New Jersey Assembly, Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt, to bring this bill to a vote that I know would have overwhelming support.  With everything going on with domestic violence, especially with situations like Ray Rice and the NFL, there is no better time to make sure that this bill does not fall through the cracks and die in committee.  This can help victims leave dangerous situations and even potentially save lives.
