My name is Chandler and I am a nonbinary high school student in the state of Pennsylvania (he/they/it).  My parents are incredibly transphobic and refuse to use my preferred name or pronouns. This is effecting my school and obviously my home life. My school's "Gender Support Plan" requires parental consent for literally everything. I think this is ridiculous because of situations like mine but that's for another time. A name change would be in the grading and information system my district uses, "Infinite Campus." What is in there is all a legal document but if a guardian approves it can be changed. The way our school google accounts are set up, the name comes straight from infinite campus and cannot be changed. So this results in me being dead named by subs because my birthname is on the roster, anyone in any of my classes can just go on google classroom and see my birth name, and also just overall discomfort with knowing this information. So I asked my mom how many signatures I would need for her to consent and she said she would not change it but I am trying anyway. My hope is that she realizes that this is a big issue and that I am not the only one that cares about this. She doesn't understand why I don't like my birth name, which isn't even just a trans issue. Anyone can decide to go by a different name or even a nickname, which my mom does. So yes I have started calling my parents by their first first names and also ignoring them when they use my birth name, I have a lot of creative ideas. If this does not work I'll pressure my school or something but I'm starting smaller. But if you do sign and she agrees this will help my mental health tremendously.  So thank you for signing and I do encourage you to share this because it would help me a lot!
