Children to wear mask in Florida
COVID rates are rising once again and our population is at risk. Florida has one of the highest numbers of new COVID cases. There is great risk of morbidity and mortality. Our children are also at risk, both personally and to spread the virus in the community. All the experts have agreed that whether vaccinated or not, it is necessary to wear a mask to prevent spread.
According to the CDC, "Americans, even if fully vaccinated, should wear masks indoors in regions where COVID-19 infections are high, and recommended that everyone in K-12 schools mask up."
President Biden will announce on Thursday that all federal workers and contractors must be vaccinated against COVID.
Dr. Fauci noted, "The Delta variant has a very unusual capability of spreading much more easily than the Alpha did. And the other data we're having right now is that, when people get breakthrough infections, when they're vaccinated and they get infected, even when they have a situation where they don't have an advanced disease, they clearly can transmit it to other people."
Florida is in the red zone. New cases are rising, hospitals are filling up again, and we are at extreme risk once schools open. Why are we repeating the same mistakes made at the start of the pandemic that led to increased transmission, illnesses and deaths related to COVID. We need to start the new school year smarter, and mandate masks like other counties in South Florida. Avoid another virtual year and keep our kids safe!
