Remove Center Turning Lane and Restripe Sandalfoot Blvd. in Watergate Estates

We, the residents of Watergate Estates in unincorporated Palm Beach County, Boca Raton, petition Palm Beach County to remove the center turning lane on Sandalfoot Blvd. from Dolphin Road to Watergate Circle/Leeward Place and restripe the road to include bicycle lanes.
This is a public safety issue. Bicyclists either block part of the travel lane or choose to ride in the center of the turning lane. Children ride bikes, skateboards and rollerblades down the center of the road. People push baby carriages and ride in wheelchairs in this turning lane. Drivers must maneuver around these pedestrians and bicyclists in order to avoid collisions. This is an extremely unsafe situation. On the evening of April 2, 2017, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle after riding in the center turning lane. This was at least the 3rd pedestrian/bicycle accident on Sandalfoot Blvd. in 6 weeks. Upon removal, we want the road to be restriped with the 2 travel lanes moved to the center of the road and bicycle lanes added on either side of the travel lanes in both directions.
We demand that the county fully fund and implement this project as soon as possible to avoid any further unnecessary injuries or deaths.
