Pakistan Supreme Court's Suo Moto Case No. 1 of 2022
Why this petition matters
The verdict given by the Supreme Court for the Suo Moto Case No. 1 of 2022 has jeopardized the security of Pakistan. On March 8, 2022 the opposition of Pakistan started a No-confidence motion against a very popular Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan and have placed a growing economy into chaos and uncertainty. It is believed that this motion is part of a regime change. The head of the opposition Shahbaz Sharif who started this motion is currently being prosecuted for money laundering and other corruption cases. He is currently out on bail. Shahbaz Shareef (along with the opposition coalition) is suspected to be party to this regime change. The Deputy Speaker of Pakistan National Assembly after consultation with National Security Council of Pakistan rejected the No-confidence Motion.
The supreme court of Pakistan took a Suo Moto action against Deputy Speaker’s prerogative and restored the vote of No-confidence Motion without looking at all the evidence despite pleas by the government. This case marks history in Pakistan as it is deemed to be a direct intervention of Supreme Court in the affairs of Parliament.
The concerned citizens of Pakistan want Supreme Court to review the case by looking at the other compelling evidence from the National Security Council of Pakistan and by allowing in Camera Briefs.
This is crucial for the success of democracy and respect of law in Pakistan.
