Robert Smith started this petition to Pakistan Government

At 3am on the morning of 30th November Jiand Baloch, a Baloch student activist, was abducted from his home together with his father and 10 year old brother, apparently by the Pakistani Secret Service ISI. Such abductions, called "disappearances" have been a practice of the Pakistani state for long, and especially since the dictatorship of Zia ul Haq in the 70s and 80s. They have hit the oppressed Baloch people especially hard. Since the 1990s, an estimated 20,000 people have been “disappeared” in Pakistan, meaning they were tortured and killed in secrecy.

Jiand Baloch is a campaigner for democratic and student rights. He is a postgraduate student at Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan, in southern Punjab, and has been elected as a Joint Secretary of the Baloch Student Organisation, BSO. He has been engaged in numerous perfectly legal activities as a student and democratic activist campaigning against racial and social discrimination of Baloch and Pashtun students at his university, for which he has been harassed by management and far-right student organisations.

In the rare cases where abducted people have survived, this was as a result of domestic protests within Pakistan itself, supported by international solidarity and publicity.

We therefore ask you to add your name to this petition to the Pakistan Government calling for:

  1. The immediate safe release of Jiand Baloch, Abdul Qayyum Baloch and Hasnain Baloch
  2. The end of the criminal practice of extra-judicial disappearances and killings
